Introducing AI Companion Pi

Founded by ChatGPT-maker OpenAI cofounder Reid Hoffman and Google DeepMind cofounder Mustafa Suleyman, the company has raised more than $225 million to build one of the world’s largest language models to create more personalized, emotional intelligence. With the recent debut of their AI companion, Pi, we put it to the test to see how it compares to other generative AI tools like Google Bard and ChatGPT in preparing healthy meal plans that support weight loss.

Personalized Conversations

Pi invites users to join a conversation without requiring sign in and aims to become a trusted and empathetic companion. The AI tool engages in banter more similar to a dating bot, asking questions about hobbies and interests, rather than simply asking how it can help.

A Conversation with Pi

When asked to prepare a 1200-calorie meal plan, Pi initially pushed back, stating the calorie level was too low, and offered questionable options like a three-egg omelet. However, with a little more interaction, Pi provided useful meal suggestions and nutritional facts, such as a spinach and pepper omelet for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and salmon with quinoa and broccoli for dinner.

Google Bard and ChatGPT in Comparison

By contrast, Google Bard and ChatGPT quickly created a 1200-calorie meal plan as requested, offering clear and organized responses. Google Bard included additional healthy eating tips, but forgot to include calcium details in the meal plan, while ChatGPT went slightly over the 1200-calorie limit.

Bottom Line

All three AI companions have room for improvement, but they offer a fun way to find inspiration for healthy meal planning. It’s important to take their advice with a grain of salt as they are still works in progress.
