Risks and Concerns

While generative AI offers productivity benefits, there are also risks involved. Dr. Jason Nurse, CybSafe’s director of science and research, warns that it has lowered entry barriers for cybercriminals. Purdue University’s research found that Chat GPT, a popular generative AI tool, has questionable accuracy and verbosity, with 52% of its answers being incorrect and 77% being verbose. Despite these concerns, 69% of UK respondents believe the benefits of generative AI outweigh the security risks.

Impact on Jobs

A McKinsey report suggests that generative AI can potentially save professionals up to 30% of their time, benefiting sectors like computer engineering, finance, and account management. It emphasizes that generative AI enhances work processes rather than eliminating jobs. For example, software developers using AI pair programmer tools like GitHub Copilot completed tasks 56% faster. McKinsey estimates that generative AI could generate $2.6 trillion to $4.4 trillion in value across industries.
