Abba Member Björn Ulvaeus and Other Artists Join YouTube AI Music Incubator
YouTube has partnered with a group of musicians to explore the intersection of generative AI and music. Known as the YouTube AI Music Incubator, the program includes diverse artists such as Björn Ulvaeus from Abba, Brazilian singer Anitta, and the estate of Frank Sinatra. Despite being primarily known for his work in the 1970s, Ulvaeus expressed his curiosity and willingness to understand the potential of AI in the creative process. He believes that by gaining this knowledge, he will be able to advocate for and protect the rights of human creators.
Besides the Incubator, YouTube has also outlined three principles regarding AI and music: embracing AI responsibly, ensuring appropriate protections for music partners, and scaling trust and safety measures. These principles aim to address concerns raised by the music industry about AI-generated content on social media platforms. With the rise of AI in music, there are fears about the infringement of legal rights and the difficulty of identifying original creations.
Although there are challenges associated with generative AI systems, YouTube emphasizes the potential for AI to assist in identifying and protecting copyrighted content. The company vows to continue investing in AI-powered technologies like Content ID and detection systems to keep the platform safe for viewers, creators, and artists.
