VMware and Nvidia Collaborate to Enable Generative AI on VMware Cloud Infrastructure
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our daily lives, from our smartphones to the Internet of Things (IoT). VMware and Nvidia have joined forces to bring generative AI capabilities to enterprises running on VMware’s cloud infrastructure. The partnership aims to deliver core services that underpin new AI deployments, allowing businesses to harness the power of generative AI within their own data centers.
Generative AI refers to the ability of AI systems to not only predict but also create new content. This technology can be applied to various applications, such as chatbots, intelligent assistants, and search and summarization services. With the integration of generative AI software from Nvidia and VMware Cloud Foundation, enterprises can customize foundational models and run generative AI applications with confidence.
The collaboration between VMware and Nvidia focuses on providing a secure and private infrastructure for running inference workloads at scale. The VMware Private AI Foundation, powered by Nvidia’s Bluefield 3 GPUs, enhances the performance of generative AI on the inference side, enabling businesses to optimize their data and unlock new business value.
McKinsey estimates that generative AI could add up to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy. VMware Private AI Foundation with Nvidia offers organizations the tools to build, customize, and deploy generative AI models. The platform, built on VMware Cloud Foundation and Nvidia AI Enterprise software, facilitates the adoption of generative AI in a cost-effective manner.
In addition to enabling generative AI, VMware is expanding its suite of technologies across VMware Tanzu, its cloud-native application development platform. Tanzu provides streamlined platform engineering and cloud operations, empowering teams to manage applications across multiple clouds. With the integration of Tanzu and Aria, a multi-cloud management portfolio, VMware offers a comprehensive solution for managing infrastructure and applications.
While VMware aims to provide infrastructure and enable the adoption of generative AI, CEO Raghu Raghuram clarifies that VMware does not plan to offer generative AI applications and services directly. Instead, VMware’s focus remains on providing a robust infrastructure offering that allows businesses to leverage the power of generative AI while maintaining control of their data.
