A Wealth of Experience
Greta Anderson, a principal at Balderton Capital, brings a wealth of practical experience to the world of fintech. With a career that spans from the trading floor at Goldman Sachs to building payment infrastructure at Pleo, Anderson’s passion lies in the fintech industry.
Betting on Fintech
Balderton Capital, a generalist VC, has seen remarkable success with its fintech investments. From backing Nutmeg and Revolut to GoCardless and Zopa, Balderton has made strategic bets on promising fintech companies. To strengthen their fintech portfolio, Anderson joined as a principal along with Rana Yared as a partner in 2020.
Spotting Opportunities
Despite the challenges faced by the venture capital industry post-Covid, Anderson remains optimistic. She sees significant opportunities in solving problems and building businesses with good margins. Payment solutions and account-to-account payments are areas of focus for Balderton, with recent investments in Swiss fintech Yokoy and TreasurySpring. Anderson believes there are still ample opportunities in account-to-account payments, given the high percentage of transactions running through card networks.
The One To Watch
Anderson will also join the panel of judges at the AltFi Awards 2023. As someone who primarily focuses on early-stage businesses, she is particularly interested in the nominees for The One To Watch award. Anderson acknowledges that while B2B fintech has had its moment, she sees potential in consumer fintech, especially in cross-border credit and the next generation of personal finance management.
The Future of Finance
Anderson envisions a future where individuals can connect all their financial assets and liabilities in one holistic view. This would include ISAs, mortgages, pensions, and more. She believes this comprehensive financial view will empower individuals to take control of their financial future. Additionally, Anderson notes that there is potential for reimagining the private wealth management space for mass affluent customers through digital family offices.
Opportunities Amid Challenges
Despite the pressures facing venture capital and the fintech industry, Anderson remains hopeful. She believes that startups addressing genuine financial challenges still have ample opportunities. The AltFi Awards 2023 is a platform that recognizes and celebrates these innovative companies. Nominations are open now and close on September 29, 2023.
