Former UK Education Secretary Gavin Williamson Joins Payment Card Provider Lanistar
Gavin Williamson, the former secretary of state for education in the UK, has been cleared to take up a paid role at payment card provider Lanistar. Williamson, who has been an MP since 2010, is well known for his eccentricity, including keeping a Mexican redknee tarantula named Cronus on his desk in his parliamentary office.
At Lanistar, Williamson will serve as an Advisory Board Member, providing guidance, connections, and leadership to the company. However, the committee on business appointments (Acoba) has emphasized that Williamson is prohibited from having any contact or dealings with the government.
The report by Tortoise Media, which led to Williamson stepping down from his ministerial position in November 2022, alleged bullying behavior, which he has denied. Despite the controversy, Williamson’s new role at Lanistar demonstrates his ability to transition into the private sector and utilize his connections to benefit the company.
