EigenLayer Enhances Security Measures on EigenDA Platform

EigenLayer, a leading provider of decentralized infrastructure, has recently made a significant update to its EigenDA platform to enhance security measures. The main focus of this update is to boost defenses against Sybil and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks by implementing Whitelist Security mechanisms.

EigenLayer’s Security Upgrade for EigenDA Platform

Over the weekend, EigenLayer’s EigenDA announced its plans to strengthen the platform’s defense mechanisms with Whitelist Security measures to combat potential Sybil and DDoS attacks. This initiative is part of EigenLayer’s broader strategy to fortify its network against vulnerabilities and provide users and developers with a secure environment.

To ensure improved security and safe access to the service, the whitelist security mechanism employs either an Internet Protocol (IP) address or Ethereum’s Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) authentication.

In the fast-evolving landscape of decentralized applications and blockchain technology, these actions are crucial to maintaining the network’s reliability and integrity. By pre-approving trusted nodes and users within the EigenDA network, the whitelist security approach reduces the risk of malicious actors disrupting operations through Sybil or DDoS attacks.

EigenLayer’s current free permissionless tier offers 6 blobs of 128KB per batch, totaling 768KB every 10 minutes, surpassing the capacity of most Ethereum rollups such as Base.

It is worth noting that EigenLayer’s EigenDA can conduct load testing on the mainnet with peak throughputs of up to 10 MB/s. EigenDA consistently generates 0.6 MB of synthetic load per second compared to Ethereum’s 4844 blob throughput and Celestia mainnet with 0.032 MB/s and ⅙ MB/s respectively.

Moreover, the platform is currently developing permissionless payments for EigenDA’s blob throughput, set to be launched later this year. Upon implementation, EigenDA will also offer reserved bandwidth for high-throughput use cases at a fixed rate.

Second Phase Airdrop for LRT Users

Following the security update, EigenDA recently initiated the second phase of its season 1 airdrop for Liquid Restaking Tokens (LRTs) users. Participants who engaged with Kelp, Pendle, and Equilibrium LRT protocols are now eligible to claim their tokens.

According to EigenLayer, allocations were reserved for each LRT protocol without penalties and adhering to the standards set in Phase 1. The platform emphasized that the EIGEN stake drop was determined based on each LRT protocol’s final user while conducting Sybil and risk assessments to verify eligible addresses and claims.

Users who interacted with these protocols before March 15 can claim their tokens until September 7. Additionally, participants from the first phase of the stakedrop are entitled to make claims, and new phase 2 participants who staked before March 15 will receive an additional 100 EIGEN tokens.
